C4Real takes counselor Welman on a virtual reality journey

Enschede February 13, 2017 – Patrick Welman, counselor for Economy and Work of the municipality of Enschede, paid a company visit to C4Real. The counselor described this Enschede company, which makes 3D animations and Virtual Reality applications worldwide for technology companies, as a hidden gem in Twente. Welman has offered his help to make connections between both the Municipality and the Twente.com platform and to put C4Real better on the map.

The company C4Real helps technology companies to communicate their products to customers in a simple and distinctive way, virtually. During the company visit, the alderman found himself briefly in such a virtual world.

Visitting C4Real

About 15 years ago, the counselor was already one of the first testers of the virtual reality glasses that were available in the Netherlands at the time. Now Welman noted that times have changed. During the visit, he did a VR training at C4Real, which was developed for Apollo Vredestein in collaboration with sister company Serious VR. Welman: “I had the feeling that I was no longer at the C4Real office in Enschede, but that I was actually operating a machine in a Vredestein industrial hall. The fact that you can imitate this so lifelike is a revolution in the field of training.”

During a tour of the C4Real studio, the counselor noted that, in addition to virtual reality and 3D animations, other visual applications are equally interesting. For example, he was allowed to compose a watch in an interactive 3D environment and view it from all sides, which can be used online as a sales tool.

Twents colleboration in India

The answer by Ton Kuper to the question of the counselor about which project he is most proud of, Kuper answers: “As a team, we are very proud of the campaign that we have devised and made for TenCate's Field in a Box. A sports field, delivered in a container, that connects underprivileged children in different places in the world with each other through sports and thus offers them a better future. We went to the slums of Mumbai and Delhi to shoot a movie. In addition, we have developed a 3D animation that explains the sports field and created an interactive 3D application, in which organizations can view the field in 3D. In this, organizations can place their own logo on the boarding around the field to convince them to invest in this social project.”

The software development of creativity

Welman visits entrepreneurs in Twente at least three times a week to experience what is going on and to discuss with entrepreneurs how politicians can best support them. He wondered, for example, whether C4Real only employs designers. The answer from director Ton Kuper was that it is precisely a mix of software developers and designers. The short lines of communication with the UT and Saxion ensure a good talent intake and bond with the region.

The counselor sees challenges due to competition in the labor market, but is mainly optimistic because of the knowledge that is available. C4Real will soon meet Welman at the Hannover Messe fair, where the company will be present together with Serious VR in the section for Holland Hightech & Smart Industry. The municipality is present here with entrepreneurs from Twente and Gronau/Euregio.
