The challenge of Thales

We have been cooperating closely with various business units within Thales. For the launch of a new innovative solution in space, they were looking for an impressive visual presentation. The presentation had to be part of an event for not only delegations from all over the world, but students as well. We developed a distinctive visual concept and a spectacular 3D animation film which was projected on an enormous wide-screen display in the most impressive presentation space of Thales.

Super widescreen

The special Thales presentation space with four enormous screens combined as one gigantic wide-screen display, was perfect for specific content. The object was to bring across the new solution of Space Situational Awareness in an impressive and moving way. With a presentation with video images, 2D and 3D animation we were able to clearly present the technology roadmap for the future of this system. The film was customized for the enormous wide-screen display. An important aspect was that images have to be directed differently for a very wide screen so movements are slowed down. If not, there is the danger that the viewers cannot turn their heads quickly enough and this affects their experience.

Translating complex information into images

The solution

We have a natural inclination to understand complicated information, technologies and techniques. In this video by Thales about Space Situational Awareness, we have also quickly internalized the complicated information. By talking to the right stakeholders such as the communication-team, engineers, marketeers and sales, we could map the information and targets to create a concept and storyline as the next step.

Combining specializations

The process

For this film three specializations were combined: film footage, 2D animation and 3D animation. Together they were integrated into a remarkable total image. Reality is often filmed as ‘proof’ or when it concerns the human aspect. But this is not so easy when we are talking about objects and debris floating through space. That is why we deployed 2D and 3D. This way we are fully free to visualize the image that best illustrates the added value of Thales Space Awareness.

Customized music enhances the experience

Our musicians compose special music for nearly all our solutions. Of course stock music is an option but it hardly ever really connects with the images. Films such as this tell a story and aim at making an impact. And sound plays a very important role.

The music that we have composed for this film, builds up when there is a highlight, and then subsides. It becomes more prominent again when special advantages are shown. The final mix took place in Surround Sound and was fully aligned to the presentation space.
